- 200 question multiple choice test that evaluates the applicant’s ability to analyze legal issues developing from certain facts
- Constitutional law, contracts/sales, criminal law/procedure, evidence, real property, torts
- Essay portion consisting of 6 questions
- Evaluates the applicant’s ability to analyze legal issues developing from certain facts in written form
- Constitutional law, contracts/sales, criminal law/procedure, evidence, real property, torts, civil procedure, corporations, California community property, California professional responsibility, remedies, trusts, California wills and succession
- Written portion comprised of 2 performance tests
- Measures an applicant’s ability to use fundamental lawyering skills in a realistic situation
- Assesses applicant’s ability to competently complete tasks required of a beginning lawyer:
- Sort relevant facts from irrelevant facts
- Analyze statutory, case and administrative materials for principles of law
- Consider ethical rules of practice
- Apply the law to the relevant facts in a manner likely to resolve the client’s issue
- Will be provided with fictional scenario along with fictional precedents and statutes
- Must analyze and perform certain tasks as instructed on the exam
